      Can the LCD/Touchscreen assembly be separated from the main board?

        @brekel
        Yes.
        The screen is held down with spongy two sided tape and the ribbon cable plugs into a connector on the board.
        You might soften the the tape with rubbing alcohol.
        They are very fragile.

          Thanks @teastain2. I'm wondering if there's enough length in the cable to mount the display slightly further (maybe 10mm) above the board. The pics look like the lcd cable is long enough, but wasn't sure about the touchscreen connector.

            @brekel I don't have a touch screen LilyGO T-Display S3.
            Even the the LCD cable would be a stretch to extend 10mm, and again that 10mm would require a lateral displacement offset of the LCD relative to the PCB, like a Z.

              @teastain2 Thanks Terry.

              The touchscreen is wider than the board, and in order to mount the display on a panel it has to be inserted from the front.
              But the board is longer on both ends than the display, so it won't go in from the front either.
              If they can be separated, I could put the display on the front of a panel and attach to the board behind through the cut-out. But if they're too fragile it could be a risk.

                @brekel Folks have cracked the LilyGO T-Display S3 display inserting into a plastic breadboard...ouch!

                  I haven't had luck with removing the display either and cracked a few while trying to fiddle with the touch display.

                  FYI - I like this board a lot and for my project I decided to just use the touch pins (1, 2) with the wires running to two separate rivets that I drilled into my chessboard to use as 'buttons'. I then cut a piece of plexus glass that feeds into the top part of the board and put the display under the plexiglass.

                  You can see some of it here at the 1/2 way point (1:42 in)

                    The other issue is I ordered the non-soldered version, which comes with the connector strips loose in the box.
                    Generally I prefer to solder in my own when needed, on the pins needed. But as the display overlaps the other side of the board it's going to require some really tricky, careful work to get them in there without damaging anything

                    The functionality of the board and display is fantastic. I think it's great, just a couple of physical issues for some applications. Ordering with pre-soldered pins is probably a better option for this one.
