Mediation is a process in which a neutral third party, the mediator, helps the parties to reach an agreement through negotiation and dialogue. The mediator does not impose a solution, but helps the parties to find a mutually satisfactory solution. Mediation lawyers can act as mediators or represent their clients in the mediation process. Arbitration, on the other hand, is a process in which a third party, the arbitrator, resolves the dispute in a way that is binding on the parties. The arbitrator acts as a private judge and his or her decision has the same force as a court judgment. Arbitration lawyers can represent their clients in the arbitration process or act as arbitrators. You can read more here: French inheritance lawyers
