      @luki743 LilyGO T-Display S3, easy;
      T-Embed not so much.
      The T-Embed repository is here:
      https://github.com/Xinyuan-LilyGO/T-Embed
You only need one GPIO and gnd if the sn65hvd230 is powered by the other device.
CAN takes a single digital output (GPIO) from the ESP and converts it to "differential" + signal, - signal.
The "Grove" connector maybe configured as CAN and maybe a few spare GPIO on that unpopulated development pad on the lower left of the image.

@lewis - No I have not. Definitely looks promising though. I'll see if I can get it working on a couple different ESP32s. Thanks! I knew I wasn't the first one to ever think this capability up.

@etolocka Well, Ernesto, if the returned value is saying that the battery is 100% of 4.2 volts...I think you are THERE!
I do not use Python, have a board like yours or ever monitored battery voltage, so I am no expert, it looks like you are OK!

@aravecchia Try changing the initialisation string from tft.init(135, 240); to tft.init(); or tft.begin(); and add TFT_eSPI tft = TFT_eSPI(135,240); between your include and define declerations.

      R

      @teastain2,

Thanks again for your help, and for confirming Arduino 2.1.1 was working fine with the LilyGo T-Display S3 on your system.

After spending virtually the whole day on this, I was able to pin-point the problem and work out a solution.

First, let me say I have also been using the ESP-IDF for some projects.

With that in mind, somewhere along the line I updated the CH430/431 driver to its most current version (3.8).

This turned out to have been at the root of the problem. Finding this post: https://github.com/espressif/esptool/issues/879 I tried reverting the driver to version 3.5, but that alone did not resolve the problem - although it was indeed the key part of the solution.

After downgrading the driver, the sketch would still not upload on either of the two LilyGo T-Display S3 boards which I was working with via the Arduino IDE 2.1.1.

However, I found that I could upload a very basic "hello world" like sketch to the LilyGo T-Display S3 using the ESP-IDF. Also, once I did this, I could then upload the sketch that I needed to the same board using the Arduino IDE.

In other words, it appears not only did the use of the current CH430/431 driver (3.8) prevent uploads to the LilyGo T-Display S3, it also somehow appears to have corrupted the flash in the board such that even with the right driver the Arduino IDE could not upload to it.

Using the ESP-IDF to upload to the board, seems to have reset things such that the Arduino IDE would again work fine with the 3.5 version of the CH430/431 driver.

I repeated the process with my second LilyGo T-Display S3 and got the exact same positive results.

Just posting this here in case it will be of use to others.

Thanks again to @teastain2 on this forum, and xamfa, radimkarnis. and mentesix on the Espressif forum for there help and posting toward this resolution.

@teastain2 I'm not new to all this and perfectly know and use also Arduino.
What follows is about Lily and not you of course.

But when MicroPython is claimed to be supported, it needs more than a vague link.
A fair comparison will be announcing support for Arduino but only provide a link to Arduino website.
I have a fair amount of boards with support for MicroPython or CircuitPython and I have at least a proper firmware for the board.
Drivers exists for LoRa and screen, I was successful in the past with a previous T-Watch.

Once more a company launch a product and do not provide proper documentation.
Maybe it's time to start shaming those companies as it is now a trend to push hardware to the market without anything on software side.

@kaly__ I tried this yesterday to pretty good results using an IPEX1 connector and a small antenna, no board modifications. Went from no connection to ~-75dB in my downstairs workshop.

FYI, I'm finding this, https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/user-guide/JN-UG-3115.pdf, quite a useful reference. For example see chapter 18 on an example of sychronising time by querying an attribute.

@pbatch You can use an external 5V source and bring it in through the USB port.
Alternately connect it to the battery charging port (if there is no battery connected to it.)

@dirk Well, Dirk that sketch has 'a lot of moving parts'!
My troubleshooting approach is run my HotHead sketch and see if it will run on battery.
If 'yes' then we must assume that one of your many sensors are drawing too much current and lowering the Vinput.
Can you measure the battery voltage with a meter as you unplug the USB and switch to battery. (This may require a push of the little black Reset button to restart it.

      I have the https://www.lilygo.cc/products/t-journal.

This is exactly why, PlatformIO or Arduino, which Sketch, etc., I asked for instructions.
If I sell such products, I also have to provide instructions on how to use them. And by that I don't just mean plug it in and use it. The products are specifically designated as a development board. Then I want to be able to “develop” with it. But if I have to start from scratch because there are no useful instructions, I can also assemble the hardware myself.
I bought these modules and was hoping for some convenience so that I didn't have to start from scratch and could implement my project quickly.
      Really very unfortunate!

@garaving No problem, I only speak ONE language!
Unfortunately I'm not an 7670e expert. It does not look like there is a BT5 version with S3.
LilyGO is using S3 exclusively now, so I am surprised.
There are so many versions and their website is not clear.
I'm sorry I could not be of more help.
